OCC Metallurgy Lip Tar: Electric Grandma

Hi everyone. I recently purchased one of the new lip tars from the Metallurgy collection. In this post I'll review Electric Grandma, and I will do a follow-up post on the Triptych lip tar as well!

First of all, I love the peppermint scents that these have. This was my first OCC order, so I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely the lip tars smell.

Shown with my choice of brush: Real Techniques definer brush

Electric Grandma is a vibrant peachy-pink with micro flecks of warm gold. When applied, it looks much more "metallic" that it appears in the tube, so if you would rather stay away from lip colors that have excessive shine or look too metal-like, maybe try "Grandma" lip tar instead.

Above: comparison photo. As you can see, when shined at a certain angle to the light, you can see the  gold shimmer that comes through. Note: there was a lot of sunlight in this photo, but the color is still a bit subdued compared to in real-life.

 Complimentary cheesy smile photo ^_^

Overall, I think the application can be slightly difficult for me because of the change in texture compared to the other OCC lip tars (of which I have one which I will show in a later post). It just seems that the whole time I was applying it, it was streaky and I had to keep on applying more color to get it to "even out". It has been a few times since I've used it, but that won't stop me from continuing to try and work with it.

Also, I feel that when this wears down, it looks really unflattering. I found that after a couple of hours, it wore down to a sheer golden sheen with patches of peach, which I found horrendous and I just took it off. If you have any comments or suggestions for me if you've used this lip tar, please let me know!

Thank you for reading!

  1. Those damn gold glitters are hard to get off. I have no idea how to use this color. I've had it for two years and never ever worn it out. It's so patchy and weird. It's unflattering and the glitter, smh. I have no idea what I was thinking when I got it. Don't let it settle for too long. You have to shake the tube for ages to get the glitter, oil and lip color to mix. Very frustrating color for me. One of their worst formulas.
